The winter of 2013-2014 was very long and the harshest we have seen in a long time. We lost quite a few Trees and Shrubs to these conditions.
In front we lost our Japanese White Pine which Diane really loved and we replaced it with an Extra Blue Limber Pine. We also lost the Merrill Magnolia and have yet to decide what to replace it with. It sits on the North corner of the house, which I call “Death Corner” as we have lost 2 other trees there over the last 22 years. We also lost 3 Sunburst Yews which we replaced with 3 Japanese Yews. These succumbed to winter burn and we will wrap them from now on.
In back we lost our French Blue Norway Pine and we replaced it with an Extra Blue Limber Pine. We also lost a Dwarf Arizona Fir that sat in the lower garden from winter burn. I am not sure, but this might be a bad spot because we had lost the original fir there also. A large “Blue Angel Hosta” replaced it. Lastly we lost 2 Gold Coast Junipers which will be replaced with “2 Francis Williams Hosta”.
